Accountant

Indiana Landmarks is a prominent statewide non-profit organization with a mission of historic preservation. Indiana Landmarks revitalizes communities, strengthens connections to our diverse heritage, and saves meaningful places. With nine offices located throughout the state, Indiana Landmarks helps people rescue endangered landmarks and restore historic neighborhoods and downtowns.

The organization is seeking a full-time Accountant, working 37.5 hours per week. The position is based at our headquarters located at 1201 Central Avenue in Indianapolis. Hours are typically 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some remote work possible. Salary range is $58,000 to $62,000 and will be commensurate with experience. Indiana Landmarks is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.

Responsibilities

  • Record cash receipt journal entries.
  • Prepare monthly general ledger account and bank reconciliations.
  • Track revenue and damage deposits for events.
  • Generate and record invoices for leases and other services.
  • Calculate and remit monthly state sales tax.
  • Assist in preparations for Board committee meetings (Finance, Investment & Audit) including ordering lunches, documenting attendance, and transcribing minutes.
  • Train as a back-up for payroll and accounts payable processing.
  • Assist with annual audit by preparing workpapers and responding to audit requests.
  • Assist with real estate transactions including tracking expenditures and restricted donations.
  •  Assist with endowment fund tracking and reconciliations.
  • Train on front-desk responsibilities and fill-in when office manager takes PTO.
  • Prepare PCI compliance reports.
  • Prepare NDT materials.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office systems. Experience with Financial Edge accounting system is a plus.
  • Be able to prioritize tasks and manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Have strong organizational skills and the ability to remain flexible to ever-changing logistics.
  • Demonstrate superior customer service skills.
  • Be detail-oriented.
  • Be a motivated self-starter willing to take initiative.
  • Be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Present a professional demeanor, dress appropriately and project a positive attitude.

Education & experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  • Three to five years of experience in financial administration; nonprofit experience is strongly preferred.
